The Fussbett Sandal, A Modern Icon
Once dubbed the ‘ugly shoe’ by an English journalist the Fussbett sandal has, since its launch in 2000, become an iconic mainstay of each season’s Marni collection. While travelling in Africa the brand’s designer and founder, Consuelo Castiglioni, was inspired by a shoe she saw worn by local people made from recycled tyres and straw. This gave rise to the rubber and rope sole of the ‘Fussbett’, affectionately named after the anatomic insole ubiquitous with Germany’s Birkenstock brand. Allowing both comfort and style to co-exist, the Fussbett is the ultimate all-rounder, appealing to women and men collectively season after season. This season the Fussbett is embellished, fringed, printed and adorned with fur continuing in the tradition of a poised juxtaposition between practicality and luxury.
